Boating/Personal Watercraft Accidents

boatAccording to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (“FWC”), Florida continues to lead the nation with a total number of 896,632 registered vessels in 2013. Further, according to the FWC, there were 736 reported boating accidents in 2013 resulting in 420 injuries and 62 fatalities. That is approximately 47 injuries for every 100,000 vessels. Personal Watercraft (“PWC”) accounted for 11% of all registered vessels and were involved in 137 (or 19%) of all reported boating accidents. Due to the sheer volume of vessels in Florida there are a high number of negligent vessel operators who have no formal training. According to the FWC, 63% of vessel operators involved in accidents resulting in fatalities had no formal training regarding the safe operation of vessels. The Law Offices of Brett L. Schlacter, P.A. has successfully represented individuals who sustained spinal and other serious injuries due to negligent vessel and PWC operators.
